How to Help your Child Make Math Connections
Single parent... working two jobs... afraid you don't have enough time to sit down and practice math with your child? Here is a great article from SchoolFamily.com on using everyday items and tasks to help your children practice and understand math.
How to Help your Child Make Math Connections
Matter of fact, while watching my 5 year old neice a few weeks ago, I needed to count out 100 'S.M.A.R.T. Zone' pencils for a workshop. I turned this into an opportunity to practice math. Instead of counting to 100, we decided to sort them by stacks of ten, counted by 10's until we reached 100. I also threw in the "now we have 7 piles of 10 pencils each... how many more piles do we need to reach 100?" I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to do this same "everyday math" with her.
